a new experience of the Last Supper
As Christians in the Western world, we forget how Jesus was an Eastern, Jewish rabbi. We miss a lot of Jesus' phrases and symbols because we don't have the same context that his original audience had. In the week leading up to Jesus' crucifixion, Jesus had a dinner with his disciples that we call "the Last Supper" and it was packed full of symbolism.
We're inviting you to take part in a dinner where we'll walk through the whole dinner (called a Seder) that they would have celebrated during the Passover. We're taking this dinner to your homes. Here's how it's going to work:
I want to go to a Seder: you'll sign up saying you want to join with the form below. We'll be in touch with you after we assign you to a host home and get you connected to the leader so you have the address and contact information. On the day of the Seder, you'll want to show up around 6:15pm so you can talk with the others in your group and get seated. This isn't supposed to be stuffy and formal - have some fun and chat with each other. At 6:30pm, your host will show a video showing and explaining a dramatization of the Last Supper that will also instruct you when to interact with your meal at home (drinking juice, eating lamb, etc...). After the meal is over, you'll sit and talk with your group for a while and head home.
I want to host a Seder: you'll sign up saying you want to host with the form below. We'll get in touch with you and find out how many people you're able to host, get you a small packet with information on how to host the event and what we will provide to help you out as well as a short list of a couple grocery items. The day of the Seder, you'll host everyone and take a leadership position during the Seder meal while watching the video (don't worry - we'll provide you with instructions - it's really easy). When the Seder is done, you'll hang out with your group for a short time and clean up when everyone heads home.
